How do you sum up an invaluable friend?

A white, knowing face with two, sad brown eyes,
Liver colored nose nudged under an arm for affection,
A pair of soft ears just right for a scratch,
The bottomless pit of a tummy ready for a rub and treat,
One fanning tail thumping the floor with a steady beat,
Multiply his part by his action --
All the opening and shutting of doors-on his own time,
Picking up things with a soft touch,
Gerri bear hugs and listing without judging,
Being a travel companion and all out charmer,
Snuggling up and being a lap warmer,
Factor in all of his fun --
Hugs stuffed bears he drags around,
Front paws on the counter reaching for cookies,
The happiness he bring to everyone,
His doggy smile while on his shoreline run,
Then, add it up-
It equals more than a friend; it's a companion,
You have a piece of my heart, Gerri
For me, you'll live in my memory.
