Flying Dog
by sharon williams.........................................
Were you in an angel's arms winging by on this night? I think you must have been since you aren't by my side. Did you ask our Lord if you could stop by & check on us? I believe you must have since your doggie brother was making such a fuss. Did you see Stevie Ray sitting on your grave & barking at the sky? While Miss Etta looked worried & the rest of your family cried? Did you hear me talking to you when you were breathing your last? I said, "I love you, Buddy Guy, you'll be a flying dog soon, & this pain will leave real fast". How did you like flying way up over our home? I think you could clearly see us while the twinkling starlight shone. Do you think an angel would bring you back another night or even day? Just so you'll know you've not been forgotten & we're doing pretty ok. I'd like you to see the monument I placed upon your grave. It's a jack Russell statue that greatly resembles you looking dignified & brave. Do you think God would approve to let you wing by again? I'll tell Stevie Ray & Miss Etta to shhhh, its Buddy Guy, your brother, that will be my plan. I think you'll really like the statue. I wish I had gotten it before you went away. But, it really has significance now, that little cement dog marking your grave. It feels almost as if you're there watching with stone eyes that never blink. My Buddy Guy remembance; I'm proud we have that link. So, do you think you could possibly come back this way sometime soon? We'll be waiting & watching in the sunshine or in the night filled with the stars & moon...
