to Buddy Guy
by sharon williams.........................................
Thank you for being steady. And for waiting...patiently...unless of course it was for food.Thank you for being so very loyal. And for being so very brave.Especially at the time when it was terribly difficult for you to end.Thank you for being forgiving when a lot of the time you were at the bottom of the totem pole and I knew you knew it.Thank you for shaking my hand when you didn't feel up to it.Thank you for not showing how much pain you were in while I knew you were indeed suffering. And thank you for trusting me eventhough I could see in your eyes that you somehow knew the grave I dug was for you.Thank you for maintainingyour dignity at the vet's when what they were doing was causing you further pain and fear. And thank you so much for helping me to maintain my dignity as I watched you linger and then succumb. But especially thank you for that final attempt to kiss me as I knelt by your face telling you, "you're a good boy, Buddy Guy, I love you, and you'll be a flying dog in just a little bit".Thank you for the joy you brought to your family & to your home. And thank you for belonging to us & for allowing us to belong to you. Thanks are not enough to express to you what your life meant to those who love you most. And I pray that God has a paradise that you're in right now & that someday your family will be with you again.I thank you inadvance for if that day does come I know you willl greet us with the steady, patient, loyal, brave, dignified, trusting love that has always filled your precious heart.Sleep well, my Buddy Guy...I am proud to have been chosen by you and I wish I could have been the gentle friend that you were to me...Wait for us at the bridge...I love you truly, mom
