I thought I remembered
by sheila watson.........................................
Those gentle eyes, that seemed to say, "please choose me, is it my turn today"? When looking back at how we met, I was sure that was the way, but properly remembering brings a different day, it was me who was asking, "please choose me today".
And when you finally looked my way, you wagged your tail, as if to say, "pick me, pick me!, I will try to be good, and learn the things you think I should.
You can teach me to sit, and learn me to stay, show me how to accept a good way to play.
Looking back now I see that wasn't really the case, it was me looking lovingly at your fluffy face.
You taught me compassion you taught me to care, you taught me to watch out for things that should not really be their.
While I thought I was showing you how you should be, you gave me the patience so that I could see, it was you did the teaching and me did the learning, then you left me with love and a grief that was burning, so deeply the yearning to see you once more, to watch you just one more time walk through the door.
You won't be forgotten, you'll always be thought of with deep love and affection so deeply in my heart, I will try to remember and to remember it right, all the lessons you taught me, you taught me just right.
