CoCo the little grey poodle stood at the edge of the bridge. He had been there for some time watching pets cross over. He was not there to greet one of the pets he was there to meet someone he had never met. Sheba his friend was there with him. Just when Sheba was about to give up and go find Chelsea to pester CoCo jumped up. "There he is" CoCo said. There on the bridge stood a man that looked older than his years. Far a second the man just stood there. CoCo looked up at him "it's ok you can come off the bridge now" CoCo said. "Where am I" the man asked. "Just this side of Heaven" CoCo said. "I must be dreaming I"m talking to a dog." the man said. "My name is CoCo and you must be Layne" CoCo said. Sheba looked up at Layne and said "It is time to let go. Only then can you cross on over into Heaven." "I am so tired and the pain has been so bad, but I do not want to leave my family". Layne said. "Your family will be ok, they will miss you, but they do not want you to suffer any more." CoCO said. The light around Layne began to glow. In the blink of an eye he was changed into the man he had been before the cancer had took over his body. A small kitten had come to sit at Laynes feet. CoCo told Layne "It is time to cross into Heaven. This kitten will be your guide" "How did you know about me" Layne asked. "Suzanne told me" CoCo said "She is my human mommy." With that the kitten walked into the glowing light with Layne flowing behind him. Sheba and CoCo smiled as they heard God greet Layne at the gates. "Well done my son. Welcome home."
Layne was my first cousin who lost his battle to pancreatic cancer on
May 19 2008. He was only 38 years old. He leaves behind a wife and 3 children.
