She Is Still Here

Kayla my 15 year old chia mix died in Oct of 09. She had been my rock for 15 wonderful years, so it was no surprise that when I got sick this past Nov that she was was there for me. I began to have severe pain in my upper chest that would just not go away. I could not get enough water. I do not drink water, so I knew that something was wrong when a coke made me sick. After several weeks of intence pain I went to the ER. I felt like a fool because I thought it was just gas because the pain was nowhere near my heart. At the ER they did several test and then admitted me. A few days later I was told that I had more ulcers in my chest than they had ever seen. The real shocker came when I was told that the ulcers more that likely saved my life. They decovered that I had so much fluid around my heart that I was one heartbeat away from death. I was rushed into surgery. To say I was scared to death was an under statement. As I was being preped for surgery I felt something small and warm lay on my pillow. A calm came over me. Just before they put me out I felt something with soft fur brush the side of my face. When I came to my sister was standing close to my bed. I looked at her and asked where Kayla was. Thinking I was still on the doped up side she told me Kayla was outside playing, because she did not want to upset me. I looked at her and said "no she's not". Then my sister told me Kayla was dead. I told her I knew that. It was then my sister noticed the small round place on my pillow. It was just big enough for one small little dog to curl up in. There is no doubt that Kayla came back to be with me when I needed her the most, then went back to the bridge to wait for me when it truly is my time.
So thank you Kayla for being my rock even in death. The love between a pet and their owner can never be broken no matter what..
